She has been a contributing writer for The Quilter
Magazine (formerly Traditional Quilter) since 1999 and
has been a regular contributor to Quilter's World (formerly Quick & Easy Quilting and Quilt World) since 1994.
She's had eight booklets of quilting designs published by House
of White Birches and All American Crafts. Since 1999 she has self-published
designs as Lucy Fazely Designs. Her designs have been featured
in Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest Publications, Quilting for Christmas, Quick & Easy Patchwork, McCall's Quilting, McCall's Quick Quilts, Quilting
Ideas, Quilt Almanac, Miniature Quilts, Quilting
Today, Arts & Crafts Magazine, Fabric Trends and Quilts & Coordinates. Her work has also been included
in fifteen quilting books including Fun Photo-Quilts & Crafts by Ami Simms (Mallery Press, 1999) and Strip Quilting Projects
9 by Kaye Wood (Kaye Wood Publishing, 1993).
Lucy has been teaching/lecturing on a variety of
quilting techniques since 1993 and is currently teaching coast to
coast. Working with fabric, batting, thread and template manufacturers,
Lucy designs quilts for national and international quilt trade shows
and has designed many free pattern handouts for the fabric manufacturers.
Her quilts have traveled around the United States, to Europe, Asia,
Japan, Australia and New Zealand representing RJR Fashion Fabrics, Princess Mirah
Design Bali Batiks, Northcott, Kaufman Fine Fabrics, P&B
Textiles, David Textiles, Sew/Fit Templates, Coats & Clark,
and Kreinik Metallic Threads. Her distinctive style is easily recognized
by many in the quilt world.
Lucy often writes the directions and includes illustrations
for the quilts she designs for publications. Her ability to break
down even complex patterns into simple terms everyone can understand
is a skill her students appreciate. Her humorous and easygoing style
creates an atmosphere of fun in which to learn.
In 2002 Michael L. Burns joined Lucy and has proven
himself as a more than capable partner in the quilting business.
Michael moved from Southern California to the cold winters of Michigan
leaving work in heavy equipment to work with fabric, rotary cutters
and sewing machines. He contributes to the design process, rotary
cuts, machine pieces, machine appliqués and machine quilts.
He assists Lucy in class and hopes to start his own class schedule
in the near future.
Lucy Fazely Designs is a family business. Lucy's son, Jeremy, was a paid
employee for years working mostly with the computer. He graduated
from high school in June 2003 and now attends college. Mike's children,
Samantha and Michael Jr., live with us and help with collating/packaging
patterns as well as the snipping-apart of assembly line pieced sections,
stacking and pressing.
Lucy & Mike had hoped to move to Southern California
but have decided to stay in frigid Michigan for the coming years.
