QUILTER'S PHOTOS
The Medical Daycare Unit of Surrey Memorial Hospital, Surrey, British Columbia, Canada was the recipient of this Funky Fish (Lucy A. Fazely 2005 design) wall hanging mid August 2007. The wall hanging was machine appliquéd and quilted by Barb Hicks of Saturna Island, B.C. to honour her step daughter Cindy Parker. We were devestated early 2007 to receive news that Cindy's ovarian cancer was back and her remission was over. Cindy loved fish and so the wall hanging began. Originally it was planned that it would hang in the Palliative Care Unit but Cindy opted to stay home and instead attend the Medical Daycare Unit every day for several months to receive life sustaining treatments. The many patients who attend that clinic all enjoy the 'Funky Fish' and their material attitudes, most bring in other visitors to the hospital just to have a look. It has brought a lot of enjoyment to many people of all ages.
Barb (Left) and Cindy(right) presented the clinic with the wall hanging mid August with a plaque that says: Presented to BC CANCER AGENCY FRASER VALLEY CENTRE, MEDICAL DAY CARE UNIT, IN HONOUR OF CINDY PARKER. FUNKY FISH PATTERN DESIGNED BY LUCY A. FAZELY 2005. QUILTED AND APPLIQUÉD BY BARBARA HICKS, SATURNA ISLAND, B.C. 2007.

Cindy lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer September 03 but her wall hanging continues to bring smiles to those who fight on.
This was a fun project. Living on a small island it isn't always easy to make the 10-hour round trip to a major centre for fabric shopping, so I just dove into my and some of my friends stashes and put together the wall hanging with scraps. I had a perfect piece of light blue with tiny white/pink/mauve fish on it and that became my background. I had avoided all appliqué period until this project and actually enjoyed doing it and I am seriously considering putting together the 'Deep Blue Sea" pattern in the New Year.
Thank you Lucy
Barb Hicks
